What is a Tesla PTC Heater?

• PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heaters are used on Teslas without a heat pump to generate cabin heat.

  When a PTC heater fails, the HVAC system may still run, but:

  • The car blows cold air

  • Cabin heating is lost completely

  • Heating may fail suddenly

We can carry out PTC heater replacement on Model X vehicles.

Tesla Model S (Dual Motor)

⚠ Important limitations

We can replace the PTC heater itself, but there is an important exception:

• The PTC fuse is located inside the battery pack

• Replacing this fuse requires battery pack removal

• This is not a service we currently offer

What this means for customers

• If the issue is just the heater → we can fix it

• If the fuse has blown → further work will be required elsewhere

Helpful rule of thumb

If you did not hear a loud pop when the heating failed, it is often just the heater itself, and replacement usually resolves the issue.

If the fuse has blown, you may need:

• Tesla Service, or

• A specialist workshop capable of battery pack removal

Our Diagnostic & Repair Process

1. Vehicle Assessment

We confirm your Tesla model, year, and whether it uses a PTC heater or heat pump system.

2. Fault Diagnosis

We assess the symptoms, including:

• No cabin heat

• Cold air only

• Whether the failure was sudden or accompanied by a noise

3. PTC Heater Replacement

On eligible vehicles, we replace the failed PTC heater and test the system.

4. Advanced Tesla Diagnostics (Toolbox Access)

Where required, our technical team can remotely access your vehicle using Tesla Toolbox to:

• Run PTC compromised rod detection

• Verify correct operation after replacement

• Support deeper fault diagnosis if needed

This allows us to go further than a standard mechanical repair and properly validate the system.

5. Advice on Further Work (if needed)

If a fuse or higher-level issue is suspected, we will clearly explain the next steps.
